THE FLOOR IS NOT LAVA

The Floor Is Not Lava is a reminder that even when life is at its most chaotic, there are places where you can find solid ground. That if you plant your feet and hold fast, you can stand firm against anything that tries to knock you down. That by leaning on others, strength can be shared and a solid foundation for support can be created.

Like magma, they take sonic elements from a wide breadth of genres, from Grunge to RnB, through Funk and Indie Sleaze, and cast them in a crucible of Pop sensibilities. The Floor Is Not Lava creates music that can toss aside the expectations of the past, using only the raw substance of what remains to build something new. This allows them to follow inspiration down whatever path the music leads them. Sometimes dark, sometimes silly, but always sincere, they tell stories of the things in life that, for whatever reason, have them seeking that firm ground, so they can gain a level perspective. There, they can mold these feelings into something positive and constructive to share, in the hopes that it can help people feel reforged.

The band first formed in 2022, after long-time friends and collaborators Sean Hampton (Bass), Ahmed Latif (Drums), and Walter Le Duy (Guitar), were introduced to singer Faith Becker, at a bar in Seattle’s Capitol Hill. Only one jam session was needed to know there was something different happening here. The power of Faith's vocals was the catalyst for an explosive era of experimentation. For two years, they worked out of their little studio in Belltown, carving a distinct space for themselves that sits comfortably between the heavy post-grunge, and lo-fi indie sounds of their peers, elevated by Faith’s larger-than-life vocal performance. In 2024, they began working with producer Sam Rosson to create their debut EP, an invitation to everyone to stand with them where The Floor Is Not Lava.
